From June 13 to 15 we held RoboWeek, a three day robotics event and the biggest project we've organized so far. Our goal was for the participants to learn the basics of robotics and then use that knowledge in a real competition.
The first two days were reserved for the workshops, held in room 70 at ETF. We prepared three workshops: basic electronics, where we covered Arduinos, motor drivers and sensors; 3D modeling basics in Onshape; and finally advanced microcontrollers, where we talked about things specific to the platform the participants were working on. Specifically, they got familiar with the exact components that were in the robot, how they work and how the robot was assembled. At the end of the lecture, our instructor showed the participants how to program a strategy into the robot.
We organized the competition part by providing the participants with robots that were mostly assembled before the event. Each team attached the sensors of their choice to their robot, and then had about six hours at the Microsoft Development Center Serbia to come up with and program a strategy for the final sumo battles.
The finals were held on June 15 at the Microsoft Development Center Serbia. After a lot of tuning, testing and a few really tense matches, the best were:
- first place - team MANDU
- second place - team MAWAŽI
- third place - team PILE PATKA.
Congrats to them, and to all the other teams that competed.
Big thanks to everyone who helped make this happen. We had support from the Mala škola elektronike (Small School of Electronics), our industry partner BEAM Europe, the Microsoft Development Center Serbia provided the venue and food for the last day, Red Bull gave us a fridge full of drinks, and 3D Republika supplied the filament. And of course, thanks to all the participants, mentors and volunteers, without whom this event wouldn't have happened at all.
